Dear Community Partner:
As part of public service
and community collaboration efforts, the Department of Social and
Rehabilitation Services is excited to be able to offer a free
training opportunity; “Bridges Out of Poverty”, based on the work of
Dr. Ruby Payne. Dr. Payne
is considered an expert in the field of poverty research.
This one-half day seminar gives
both the social service provider and the community member key
lessons in dealing with individuals from poverty. Topics include
increasing awareness of the differences in economic cultures and how
those differences affect opportunities for success and employment
for individuals from poverty.
This seminar is designed for
employers, community organizations, community leaders, law
enforcement, counselors, health care and social service providers.
This training will be offered at
the Chanute SRS office Kansas Room, 1500 W. Seventh Street on March
15th. There are two sessions to choose from–a morning
session from 8:30 a.m. to noon, or an afternoon session from 1:00
p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Registrations are currently being accepted for
either session. Training will be offered in Iola at the Allen
County Community College theater on March 27th.
If you would like to attend the Bridges Out of
Poverty Overview, please contact Joan Newman by phone at 620
431-5000 x 267 or by email at
jrxn@srs.ks.gov.
Please register as soon as possible so that we can make appropriate
seating arrangements.
This is an excellent training
opportunity and we are excited to be able to present this
information to our community.
